Ask anyone in London how their summer went and you'll get the same answer. Hectic.
The World Cup rarely runs on London time, and this year was no exception. Those late nights that turned into early alarms took their toll. Add a heatwave that made a full night's sleep feel like a distant memory, and a social calendar with no real gaps, and it's no surprise we're all running on empty. Screens on longer, drinks poured far more often, steps replaced by scrolling.
It was all worth it - but by the end of August, London is running low on energy and ready for a proper reset.
This isn't a coincidence - it's a pattern. Every year, London culture encourages a summer of "let's do it", leaving autumn to quietly pick up the pieces. Thankfully, recovery has stopped being something people do alone, in private, only if they get round to it. It's become a shared project. Cold plunges used to be a niche curiosity - now they come with a waitlist. Sound baths have moved from luxury wellness retreats to a Tuesday evening after work. Breathwork, reiki and contrast therapy - all things that would have sounded unconventional five years ago - are now booked out weeks in advance.
The shift is less about chasing a trend and more about timing. People are tired in a way that a good night's sleep doesn't fix. The fatigue is layered - physical, mental, digital - and it calls for more than one remedy. It calls for a full reset.
Recovery, but make it social
Here's the part that's easy to miss: recovery works better with other people around.
There's a reason group fitness classes have outlasted a decade of solo workout apps. There's a reason the best sound baths feel like a shared exhale rather than a solitary one. Doing the work of putting yourself back together is a lot easier - and more likely to happen - when it's built into a day out rather than another item on your to-do list.
That's the idea behind our City Wellness Retreat. It's back in Earls Court on Saturday 19th September, after last year's sell-out.
This is a community, not just a class. Think movement in the morning - a panel talk, then a rotating choice of Pilates, Yoga Sculpt or sports massage. Padel skills clinics running throughout, with nourishing food on hand and hydration from VOSS all day.
The afternoon turns fully toward recovery: reiki and a crystal bowl sound bath, group hypnotherapy meditation, assisted stretching, and a full recovery zone - cold plunges with guided breathwork, contrast therapy between plunge and sauna, and compression boots to close things out. Everyone leaves with a goodie bag you'll love.
The city slows down, on purpose
Most wellness advice asks you to remove yourself from your life for a while - a retreat somewhere quiet, a digital detox in the countryside, a week off-grid. Useful, but not always realistic.
Our City Wellness Retreat takes a different approach: bring the reset into the capital, and build it around people rather than isolation. A full day on court, surrounded by others doing the same thing. No niche knowledge required - just a willingness to move a little, sit back for a while, and let the professionals do the rest.
Summer asked for a lot. This is the day that gives some of it back.
