Looking to sharpen your Padel skills? Padel Social Club’s Padel Director, Dani Dios - former coach of the Swedish National Team - along with Antonio Cifuentas, our expert club coach, offer their top tips to help you improve your game. With insights on strategy and technique, our coaches share their wealth of knowledge to make sure you’re prepared to excel on the court.
Use the Walls to Your Advantage
Dani: "The walls are your allies. Use them to buy extra time and control the pace of the game. Practice positioning yourself to use the walls effectively for defence."
Move in Sync with Your Partner
Antonio: "Padel is a team game, and coordination with your partner is key. Always move together - forward or backward. Staying in sync helps cover more ground and avoid gaps that opponents can exploit."
Master the Lob
Dani: "A well-executed lob can completely shift the momentum of a rally. Use it to push your opponents back and buy time to regain control."
Own the Net
Antonio: “When you feel like you’ve got the upper hand, get to the net. This is the key to success. Dominating the net is your chance to put your opponents under pressure with volleys, smashes and bandejas”.
Perfect Your Court Positioning
Antonio: "Avoid the space between the baseline and the net where it's hardest to react to shots. Position yourself either at the back for defence or up at the net for volleys. This maximises your chances of returning shots effectively."
Keep Your Eyes on the Ball
Dani: "Maintaining focus on the ball throughout the rally is crucial. Tracking its spin, speed, and direction helps you anticipate your opponent's next move and react more effectively."
Improve Your Reaction Speed
Antonio: "Padel is fast-paced. Training your reaction time through quick drills will help you adjust to unexpected shots and keep you one step ahead in intense rallies."
Work on Soft Shots
Dani: "Precision is just as important as power. Soft, angled shots can be more effective than strong hits, especially when they place your opponents in awkward positions on the court."
Common Mistakes to Avoid …
Hitting the Ball Too Hard
Dani: "It’s a common misconception that power wins games. Padel is about accuracy. Focus on placement and control to keep the rally going in your favour."
Playing Without Communication
Antonio: "Clear communication with your partner is vital to a successful match. It helps you anticipate each other’s movements and react to the game as a team."
Staying at the Back
Antonio: “90% of all padel points are won at the net. So don’t be afraid to come forward when the time is right. This includes after your serve, when you lob your opponent and in general when you feel you have the chance to attack.”
Playing Out of Position
Dani: "Staying in no man’s land is a big mistake. Be mindful of your positioning—either defend from the baseline or attack from the net. This allows you to respond more efficiently."
