George Veness, Founder of JAB Boxing Club
Autumn is here. The mornings are darker, schedules are busier, and it can feel harder to stay consistent. But for me, this is exactly the moment to reset routines, build resilience, and get stronger - both on and off the court.
Strength isn’t just about muscles. It’s about mindset, energy, and habits. Over the years at JAB Boxing Club, I’ve seen that discipline is forged in the small, everyday choices: showing up even when you don’t feel like it, sticking to a routine, and fuelling your body so it can perform.
These are my top tips for making this autumn your strongest season yet.
1. Structure Brings Strength
Summer is all about spontaneity. Autumn is where structure wins. Set a training rhythm that works for you - two court sessions, one strength session, one recovery day - and protect it like a meeting in your diary. When you have structure, you’ll build consistency, and that’s where real strength comes from.
2. Mix Power With Play
Boxing and padel might seem worlds apart, but together they’re a powerhouse. Boxing sharpens footwork, endurance, and reaction time. Padel tests agility, teamwork, and strategy. Blending the two challenges both body and mind, and keeps training fresh and fun.
If you haven’t tried it yet, check out our Smash & JAB sessions - where boxing energy meets padel play every Sunday morning at the club.
3. Recover Like It Matters (Because It Does)
Training harder is only half the story. The other half is recovery. Prioritise sleep, mobility work, and smart nutrition - these aren’t just optional extras, they’re what let your body and mind show up stronger next time.
Recovery can take many forms: stretching after a session, rolling out tight muscles, taking a walk to loosen up, or even just slowing down for a few minutes to focus on your breathing. It’s about giving your body the chance to adapt, repair, and come back better than before.
Listen to your body. Some days it will need extra rest, some days it will crave movement. Finding the right balance between effort and recovery is key to staying consistent all season, and ultimately, building the strength that lasts.
4. Reset the Mindset
Strength is also mental. A reset doesn’t mean overhauling everything at once - it means starting small. Pick one clear focus each week: showing up on time, drinking more water, or adding an extra stretch session. These small wins add up to resilience that lasts the whole season.
Stronger Together
Autumn is about finding energy in routine and strength in community. Whether you’re hitting the court, stepping into the ring, or grabbing a coffee with teammates afterwards, the habits you build now will carry you through the season.
Set your rhythm, mix up your training, recover well, and lean into the community around you. You’ll feel stronger - not just in your game, but in your everyday life.
